One look at the parenting blogs online, and you will know all about the horrors of making your child do homework. Most parents are fed up with kids throwing tantrums saying, “Do my homework right now!” And as every parent worth their sleepless nights in the nursery knows, you should NEVER give in to such tantrums. From shouting matches to slamming doors, homework makes things go quite berserk at home. Surprisingly though, homework does not have to bring in worries with it every time your kid walks in the home from school. Simple tricks can make your child go from “Do my homework for me” to “I have completed the entire worksheet” in no time. Read on to know more about the helpful ways that you can make homework interesting for your kids.
Do not encourage the habit of leaving homework for later. Giving in to procrastinating habits will only delay the homework tasks, making your child bitter when they finally have to complete it in a hurry.
Set up a study space assigned, especially for homework. You do not always have to send them to their rooms for doing homework. Instead, ask them to join you in the living room or kitchen at their special homework spot. Jazz up the space with throw pillows and rugs to make it comfortable.
Always advise them to tackle homework in manageable portions. If your kids are at middle school, it makes no sense for them to sit around for an hour, poring over their worksheets. Start small, say, thirty minutes of studying at a stretch. Gradually increase the time as they move up the grades.
Get some homework help apps to aid them during the process. From digital flashcards to advanced calculators, they can get all sorts of help from apps and tools online. Interactive apps can also make the tasks look easier and more fun to them.
You can set aside a few tasks for their homework hours. Be it paying bills, calculating taxes or preparing a grocery shopping list, sit down with them during homework hour to finish those tasks. It does look like that’s all it takes to make your child do their homework. However, it is easier said than done. Remember, the more you practice parenting hacks with homework, the more are the chances of your children actually liking homework. Implement the tips discussed in this post, and see which ones work out for you. Good luck!
